In the vibrant summer of June, the seminar on “Biochar-based Fertilizer Application and Development” was successfully held on the afternoon of June 26 at SEEK Bio’s Jinshan Factory. The event was organized by the Rural Revitalization Expert Service Station and co-hosted by the Jinshan District Agricultural Technology Promotion Center and SEEK Bio Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. Over 50 distinguished guests attended, including leaders from district-level united front and agricultural authorities, top experts from research institutions, and representatives from local agricultural enterprises and cooperatives. The seminar, chaired by Yao Chunjun, Director of the Jinshan District Agricultural Technology Promotion Center, focused on exploring innovative applications and industrialization prospects of biochar technology in green agriculture. This collision of ideas and technologies injected strong momentum into Shanghai’s ecological and circular agriculture development.

01 High-Level Focus: Government, Research, and Industry Collaborate on Green Agriculture
The seminar received high attention from leaders and experts at all levels:

  • Su Zhenhong, Deputy Minister of the District United Front Work Department, attended to offer guidance, emphasizing the role of non-party intellectuals and promoting city-district collaboration to empower rural revitalization through technological innovation.
  • Yuan Songmei, Deputy Director of the District Agriculture and Rural Committee, highlighted the strategic importance of biochar technology in improving soil health and promoting low-carbon agriculture in Jinshan and Shanghai, expressing hope for accelerated technological innovation by companies like SEEK.
  • Cutting-edge presentations from experts such as Zhou Sheng (Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences) and Lin Tianjie (Jinshan Agricultural Technology Promotion Center) provided solid scientific support for industry development.

02 SEEK Takes the Lead: Industrial Achievements Widely Recognized

As the host and technological leader, SEEK Bio General Manager Pu Jiajun personally guided the visiting delegation, showcasing the company’s full capabilities in taking biochar technology from R&D to industrial scale.
Guests toured the core production area of SEEK Bio’s Jinshan Factory, witnessing the complete production chain from biomass raw material pretreatment, high-temperature pyrolysis and carbonization, to intelligent packaging of finished products. Pu detailed SEEK’s independently developed processing equipment and full-chain production system.
“This production line, with an annual capacity of 10,000 tons, enables standardized, large-scale production of biochar-based fertilizers. It forms the foundation for translating technology into industrial competitiveness,” Pu stated on-site. Guests highly appreciated SEEK Bio’s success in efficiently transforming laboratory technology into market-ready products.
During the seminar’s technical sessions, Sun Dandan from SEEK Bio’s R&D Center presented “Industrial Applications of Biochar Soil Amendment Technology”, highlighting:

  • Practical Achievements: Core breakthroughs in biochar-based fertilizer R&D, including the carbon-microbe composite enhancement technology;
  • Field Evidence: Data from multiple cooperative farms demonstrating increased soil organic matter, reduced chemical fertilizer usage, higher rice yields, and lower heavy metal residues;
  • Commercial Value: Collaboration cases with local cooperatives proving the technology delivers cost reduction, yield increase, and improved product quality.

03 Thought Leadership: Expert Reports Define Future Directions

The seminar brought together top industry minds to chart the development path for biochar applications:

  • Lin Tianjie (Agricultural Technology Promotion Center) analyzed Shanghai’s soil status and emphasized that “soil improvement, efficiency enhancement, and low-carbon fertilization” are future core directions, perfectly aligning with biochar technology.
  • Zhou Sheng (Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences) presented “Carbon Sequestration and Emission Reduction Effects of Biochar and Its Application in Low-Carbon Agriculture”, demonstrating through data that biochar is not just a soil amendment but also a key agricultural carbon sequestration tool.
  • Fulan Agriculture, a partner company, shared innovations in seedling substrate, creating synergies with SEEK’s biochar technology across the industry chain.

04 Practical Collaboration: GM Leads Efforts to Ignite Partnerships

During the matchmaking sessions, General Manager Pu Jiajun led the technical team in high-level discussions with agricultural enterprises and cooperative leaders:

  • On-site Follow-Up: Several cooperatives scheduled field trials for biochar-based fertilizers immediately after the visit;
  • Customized Solutions: Companies discussed product development for greenhouse soil restoration and other specific challenges;
  • Co-Building Ecosystem: Pu proposed a “Technology Sharing Platform”, inviting all parties to establish a biochar application demonstration network, receiving strong support from the expert panel.

GM Pu summarized: “The value of biochar lies in restoring life to the land. SEEK’s responsibility is to bridge the ‘last mile’ between technology and agricultural benefit. We will continue to collaborate with government, research institutions, and agricultural partners to make every acre a benchmark for green productivity!”

Future Focus of SEEK Bio:
1.Build the “Jinshan Model”: Establish biochar demonstration bases covering staple crops, vegetables, and orchards;
2.Develop Customized Solutions: Address soil acidification, compaction, and other challenges with specialized products;
3.Construct a Service Ecosystem: Provide full-cycle support, including soil testing, solution design, and effect tracking.
Every gram of biochar carries the promise of soil revitalization; every innovation is rooted in fertile harvests. SEEK Bio is committed to partnering with stakeholders across the board, using technological strength to cultivate vast fields of green productivity.
