Prof. Wenfu Chen
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Shenyang Agricultural University, and Director of the Rice Research Institute. He is a National Model Teacher, National Labor Model, and one of the first recipients of the title Outstanding Agricultural Science and Technology Worker in China. He has served as a Deputy Leader of the Expert Advisory Group for Full-Process Mechanization of Crop Production under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and is the initiator of the National Biochar Technology Innovation Alliance.<br> Prof. Chen is a pioneer in biochar research in China, initiating the academic discipline and promoting its industrial development. He first proposed the concept of “Straw Carbonization Returning to Soil for Soil Improvement” and the concept of producing “biochar-based fertilizers”. His work has greatly advanced both the academic research and industrial application of biochar. He has been awarded two National Science and Technology Progress Second Prizes and three first prizes at provincial and ministerial levels, and has published over 200 academic papers. Prof. Chen is a member of the 11th, 12th, and 13th National People's Congress and enjoys a special government allowance from the State Council.
Prof. Jun Meng
Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Shenyang Agricultural University, National Rice Industry Technology System Scientist. Member of the 9th Fertilizer Registration Review Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and a member of the Straw Comprehensive Utilization Technology Docking Expert Group of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Chief Expert of the Biochar Industry Technology Innovation Team of Liaoning Province.
Prof. Meng has received numerous honors, including the May Day Labor Medal of Shenyang, Outstanding Science and Technology Worker of Shenyang, nomination for Shenyang’s Top Ten Scientific and Technological Talents, and Outstanding Science and Technology Worker of Liaoning Province. He has been selected for multiple talent support programs, including Class A of the Outstanding Talent Support Program of the Liaoning Provincial Department of Education, the Thousand-Level Talent of the “Hundreds, Thousands, and Tens of Thousands Talent Project” of Liaoning Province, the “Xingliao Talent Plan” for innovative talents, the National Science and Technology Innovation Leading Talent Support Program, and the National “Science and Technology Innovation Talent” support program.
His research focuses on biochar and straw carbonization returning to soil theory and technology, contributing significantly to the field of sustainable agriculture and soil improvement.
Prof. Hailong Wang
Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Foshan University of Science and Technology, Leader of the Environmental Science and Engineering Discipline, and a high-level overseas talent. Director of the Guangdong Biochar Engineering Technology Research Center and President of the Guangdong Biochar Industry Technology Innovation Alliance. Director of the International Biochar Initiative (IBI) and a council member of the National Biochar Technology Innovation Alliance.
Prof. Wang serves as Executive Editor for the journals BIOCHAR (Chinese Academy of Sciences Zone 1) and Carbon Research. He has been recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher globally in the fields of Environmental & Ecology and Agricultural Sciences. His research focuses on waste treatment and resource utilization, and biochar-based environmental materials.
As an internationally renowned expert in biochar research, Prof. Wang has been invited to deliver over 20 keynote speeches at international conferences, and has served five times as Chair or Co-Chair of major international conference committees. He has received numerous awards, including the First Prize for Agricultural Technology Promotion in Guangdong Province and the International Cooperation Award for Foreign Experts from Guangdong Higher Education Institutions.
Prof. Weiguang Lü
Director and Researcher at the Institute of Ecological Environment Protection, Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Recognized as a Leading Talent of Shanghai and an Outstanding Technical Leader. He also serves as Executive Deputy Director of the Shanghai Agricultural Environment and Cultivated Land Conservation Scientific Observation and Experimental Station of the Ministry of Agriculture, Director of the Shanghai Agricultural Environment Protection Monitoring Station, and Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Facility Horticulture Technology of Shanghai.
Prof. Lü is a Council Member of the Soil Society of China and Deputy Director of its Soil Ecology Professional Committee. He is also a member of the Expert Committee of the National Circular Agriculture Industry Technology Innovation Alliance and Chairman of the Shanghai Society of Soil and Fertilizer Sciences.
His research focuses on agricultural environmental pollution control and remediation, soil obstacle mechanisms and improvement, waste treatment and resource utilization, and ecological agriculture development models. Prof. Lü has led and undertaken over 30 major national and provincial projects, received three provincial and municipal science and technology progress awards, and published more than 80 academic papers.
Dr. Sheng Zhou
Researcher and Team Leader at the Institute of Ecological Environment Protection, Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Distinguished Expert under Shanghai’s “High-Level Overseas Talent Introduction Program” and Director of the Climate Change and Green Production Research Laboratory. He also serves as a Council Member of the Chinese Society of Plant Nutrition and Fertilizer, Vice President of the Shanghai Soil and Fertilizer Society, Member of the International Water Association (IWA), Committee Member of the Water Environment Branch of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, Overseas Member of the Japan Water Environment Association, Expert Reviewer for Key R&D Projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Editorial Board Member of the Zhejiang Journal of Agriculture, Master’s Supervisor at Shanghai Ocean University, and Adjunct Professor at Shanghai Institute of Technology.
Dr. Zhou’s research focuses on low-carbon circular agriculture and environmental ecological engineering. He has published over 100 papers and received multiple honors, including the Excellent Award at the 14th IWA International Conference on Water Science (ICWS), the “Top 10 Solutions Award” at the 5th China Innovation Challenge, and the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Achievements from his institute.
Dr. Guoqing Shen
Postdoctoral Supervisor and Chief Researcher at the Ecology Postdoctoral Research Station, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He is the first project leader of Shanghai’s Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Special Projects under the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission, and Chief Expert of the Ministry of Education’s Science and Technology Innovation Program. Dr. Shen serves as Deputy Director of the Agricultural Chemicals Committee of the Shanghai Society of Chemical Industry, Council Member of the Shanghai Society of Trace Elements, and Expert Reviewer for soil and groundwater investigation, assessment, and remediation projects for polluted sites in Shanghai. He is also a reviewer for the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Science and Technology Progress Award.
Dr. Shen’s research focuses on the low-carbon, high-value utilization of waste biomass. He has led over 60 research projects, published more than 100 papers, and holds 16 invention patents. As the primary contributor, he completed the project “Key Technologies and Applications for Efficient Carbonization and Resource Utilization of Agricultural and Forestry Waste”, which was awarded the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress by Shanghai in 2020.
Dr. Jianhua Shao
Researcher at the Institute of Resources and Environment, Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Chairman of the National New Fertilizer R&D Collaboration Alliance, Vice Chairman of the National Fertilizer Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance, and Vice Chairman and Expert Group Leader of the Fertilizer Professional Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society. He also serves as an Editorial Board Member of Fertilizer and Health magazine, Associate Editor of New Technologies for Soil Testing and Formula Fertilization of Crops, and Associate Editor of Nutrient Package Fertilization Technologies for Major Crops in China.
Dr. Shao’s research focuses on the utilization of agricultural and sideline industry waste in fertilizers, development of new functional fertilizers, and formula fertilization technologies. He has delivered over 20 special lectures on waste resource utilization and new fertilizer development, trained more than 1,000 technical professionals, and helped fertilizer enterprises solve over 50 production problems. He has undertaken eight national and provincial-level research projects, applied for over 20 national patents, and published more than 100 papers.
