SEEK Bio’s Innovative Model Shines at the 6th Biochar Research and Application Seminar
2023-10-17 17:46
From October 13 to 15, the 6th National Biochar Research and Application Seminar was successfully held in Hangzhou. The conference brought together over 700 experts, scholars, industry professionals, and student representatives from nearly 300 organizations nationwide. SEEK Bio showcased its innovative circular economy project model in a brilliant presentation at the event.
Gathering of Academicians, Convergence of Talents
Experts and scholars convened to discuss the research, application, and development of biochar, showcasing new technologies and achievements.
Academicians such as Professor Chen Wenfu of Shenyang Agricultural University, Academician Jiang Jianchun of the Institute of Wood Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, Academician Zhou We of the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Gao Shangbin, Secretary-General of the China Agricultural Ecological Environment Protection Association, attended the conference to share insights and explore the latest progress in biochar technology.
The conference, themed “Carbonization Recycling, Green Low-Carbon Development,” featured multiple topics including biochar preparation technology and new materials, carbon sequestration and soil fertility improvement, nitrogen migration and transformation, heavy metal pollution control, organic pollution control, biochar and microorganisms, and ecological restoration with biochar.
During the invited keynote session, Academician Chen Wenfu delivered a speech titled “The Past and Present of Biochar,” outlining future research priorities and directions for biochar in the agricultural environment, aiming to provide valuable guidance for its application and industrialization.
The Profound Significance of the Biochar Industry
The recycling and resource utilization of agricultural and forestry wastes, improving soil fertility, and reducing carbon emissions are the core values of the biochar industry. Biochar, with its abundant porosity, high carbon content, and stable physicochemical properties, can not only significantly expand the soil carbon pool after being returned to the field but also promote the formation of soil aggregates, reduce soil bulk density, and improve soil physical and chemical properties. Additionally, it helps immobilize heavy metals and adsorb organic pollutants, thereby fundamentally enhancing soil fertility and improving the quality of arable land.
Therefore, the research and promotion of biochar technology not only serve national strategic goals but also align with the needs of a low-carbon, green, and high-quality agricultural development path.
SEEK Bio’s Innovation Model Sharing
Industrial Application of the Low-Carbon Circular Model for Carbonization, Fertilizer Production, and Field Return of Agricultural and Forestry Wastes
The conference was jointly hosted by Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, the National Biochar Technology Innovation Alliance, the China Agricultural Ecological Environment Protection Association, and Shenyang Agricultural University. As a council member of the National Biochar Technology Innovation Alliance, SEEK Bio participated and shared its innovative circular economy project model.
Mr. Liu Shanliang, Head of Technology at SEEK Bio, delivered a detailed presentation on the “Industrial Application of the Low-Carbon Circular Model for Carbonization, Fertilizer Production, and Field Return of Agricultural and Forestry Wastes.”
1.Overview of SEEK Bio’s Circular Economy Innovation Model
As a circular economy service provider, SEEK Bio employs industrial-scale technologies to convert agricultural and forestry wastes into innovative biochar-based fertilizers for soil fertility improvement. This approach achieves efficient resource utilization of wastes, promotes green and high-quality agricultural development, and contributes to carbon sequestration and emission reduction in agriculture.
2.Project Benefits of SEEK Bio’s Circular Economy Innovation Model
Through the operation of this innovation model, SEEK Bio achieves:
- Integrated Multi-Production Benefits
Combining ecological protection, advanced manufacturing, and modern agriculture for outstanding comprehensive benefits.
- Extensive Waste Treatment
Efficiently processing a wide range of urban and rural organic wastes to create zero-waste cities.
- Value-Added Utilization
Transforming harmful wastes into useful resources, going beyond simple harmless disposal.
- Energy Saving and Carbon Sequestration
Carbonization consumes minimal energy and reduces drying energy during fertilizer production. Biochar-based products also deliver significant carbon sequestration benefits.
Looking ahead, SEEK Bio will continue to deepen its efforts in the resource recycling of wastes, focus on soil remediation and improvement, and develop and apply innovative biochar-based fertilizers to support low-carbon, green, and sustainable agricultural development, achieve China’s dual carbon goals, and advance rural revitalization.
