2025 Shanghai International Carbon Neutral Technology, Products, and Achievements Expo — Circular Economy Parallel Forum Successfully Held in Pudong Century Park on June 5

The forum, themed “Empowering through Circulation, Thriving Anew — Circular Economy Supporting the Path to Carbon Neutrality,” focused on hot topics such as equipment upgrades and trade-in programs for consumer goods. It brought together stakeholders from all sectors to discuss the future of circular economy development and aimed to better implement circular economy measures to support carbon peak actions.

At the event, Ren Juping, President of the Shanghai Circular Economy Association, announced the official release of the “2025 Shanghai Circular Economy Case Collection” (hereinafter referred to as the Case Collection). She invited Zhao Kai, Executive Vice President of the China Circular Economy Association, and Sun Wei, Vice President of Shanghai Jianke Consulting Group Co., Ltd., to present awards to the 23 enterprises featured in the Case Collection.

Compiled jointly by the Shanghai Circular Economy Association and the Shanghai Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Center Co., Ltd., the Case Collection focuses on Shanghai’s circular economy sector. It deeply explores exemplary enterprises’ distinctive achievements in waste reduction, reuse, and resource recovery, injecting green momentum into Shanghai’s high-quality urban development and industrial transformation, and forming demonstrative cases of circular innovation.

According to statistics, the Case Collection systematically summarizes innovative circular economy practices across the city, categorizing them into three major types based on their characteristics: Full Lifecycle Cases, Source Reduction Cases, and Circular Reuse Cases. It comprehensively showcases the shift of market players from “passive compliance” to “active value creation,” demonstrating the integration of economic, environmental, and social benefits in circular economy practices.

Full Lifecycle Cases vividly illustrate leading enterprises’ circular development visions and industry models. This edition selects five innovative cases from BASF (China) Co., Ltd., Dongfang International Group Shanghai Rongheng International Trade Co., Ltd., HuiRong Electronic Systems Engineering Co., Ltd., L’Oréal (China) Co., Ltd., and SKF (China) Co., Ltd. From a paper cup, a package, or a piece of clothing to bearing machinery and electronic appliances, these cases demonstrate a comprehensive lifecycle circular model encompassing green design, green production, classification recycling, and reuse. This maximizes product and resource utilization efficiency while minimizing raw material consumption and environmental pollution.

Source Reduction Cases feature advanced examples from five enterprises: Shanghai Electric Group Co., Ltd. Central Research Institute, Shanghai Jialin Jie Textile Technology Co., Ltd., Shanghai Michelin Tire Co., Ltd., Schneider Electric (Shanghai) Industrial Control Co., Ltd., and TSMC (China) Co., Ltd. These cases highlight outstanding efforts to improve resource utilization efficiency, increase the use of recycled materials, and reduce waste generation at the production source. They cover both traditional industries (textiles, tires, and electrical equipment) and emerging sectors such as coating robotics and integrated circuits.

Circular Reuse Cases include exemplary cases from thirteen enterprises: PepsiCo Foods (China) Co., Ltd., Puyue China & Ingka Shopping Centers China, Shanghai Fupai New Materials Technology Co., Ltd., Shanghai Guanjia Electronics Co., Ltd., Shanghai Environment Group Jiaying Environmental Protection Co., Ltd., Shanghai Environment Tianma Zero-Waste Low-Carbon Environmental Protection Industrial Park, Shanghai Moka Construction Engineering Technology Development Co., Ltd., Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design & Research Institute (Group) Co., Ltd., Shanghai MCC Environmental Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., Shanghai Zili Plastics Technology Co., Ltd., Shuaiyichi New Materials Group Co., Ltd., Wanwu Xinsheng (Aihuishou) Group, and Xinguang Renewable Resources (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.

These cases cover outstanding practices in areas such as the construction of recycling and sharing systems, remanufacturing and reuse, resource recovery, and public awareness campaigns. They involve a wide range of materials, including second-hand goods, waste equipment, metal and non-metal inorganic waste, and organic materials.

The Case Collection not only summarizes advanced models, practices, and technologies from past experiences but also serves as a forward-looking action guide. It is hoped that enterprises and institutions can draw inspiration from these cases and integrate the concept of circular economy into their strategic decision-making; that research institutes can identify directions for technological breakthroughs and tackle key common challenges; and that the public can strengthen their awareness of green consumption, making the purchase of recycled products and the exchange of second-hand goods a new lifestyle trend.

Looking ahead, the Shanghai Circular Economy Association and the Shanghai Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Center will continue to deepen their work in the circular economy field. They are committed to collaborating with all stakeholders to sustain and advance the Shanghai Circular Economy Case Collection as a flagship project of the city. This will contribute significantly to making Shanghai a more desirable ecological city and jointly writing a new chapter in urban green development.

With the power of circularity, let us forge the future of industry together!
